This experimental study has been conducted in order to see the positive effects of visual materials in teaching reading to young learners. The population of the experiment is EFL classes for young learners in secondary schools within a district of the country of Samsun, and the sample of the research is the 6th graders at Ayvacık Mustafa Üstündağ Yatılı İlköğretim Bölge Okulu. This study has an experimental and the control group which consist each of 24 students. In order to evaluate the obtained data, the t-test has been used. This study consists of six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the study which explains the problem, aim, hypothesis, limitations and the method of the study. The second chapter is about strategies, techniques and methods for teaching reading, and three phases in a reading lesson. The third chapter gives information about the differences between young and adult learners, and teaching reading through visual materials to young learners. The fourth chapter includes the method of the research. The fifth chapter includes the data analysis of the experiment. Finally the sixth chapter includes concluding remarks and suggestions for further studies. As a result of the data analysis, a statistically significant difference has been found between pre and post-tests. These findings show that the students have developed a positive attitude towards the activities used in reading skills and their level of language has been improved.
