The aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between stress, psychopathology and coping strategies with stress with in a "normal" sample with is chosen from umversty students. To accomplish this aim, the effects of stress levels and subject' sex on the scores of Rosenbaum's Learned Resourcefulness Schedule (RLRS) and Global Symptom Index (GSI) of Symptom Check List-90-R (SCL-90-R) were investigated. The correlation coefficent was also computed from these two scales. 222 students participated in the study from different departments of School of Arts, Science Faculty, Engineering Faculty, and Education Faculties of Hacettepe. Universty. Among them a total of 140 subjects (70 female, 70 male) were composed to the high and low stress level groups according to their Life Events Scale scores, and and the analysis were based on the data obtained from these subjects. Subjects completed the RLRS and SCL-90-R in a randomised order.Two-way analysis of Variance and Pearson Product- Moment Correlation Coefficient techniques were used in the study. Acording to the results of statistical analysis, stress level and sex had main effects on the scores of RLRS. Stress level had also a main effect on the GSI. But the interractions were not significant for both dependent measures. There was also a significant negative correlation between the scores of RLRS and GSI. VI It was emphasized that studying the relationships among the variables such as stress, coping and psychopathology is important particularly in a "normal" sample and the methodological problems in related literature were discussed.
